*** Important Update**** I have split this blog into two. I am keeping this site for all the Kozy Carrier related information and updates, and I started a new blog for all the other stuff (family stuff, thoughts on parenting, birth, natural living, crafts, recipes etc). I have imported all the relevant posts from this blog over there. So come check it out www.entergentlyblog.blogspot.com

Blizzard of 2010 part 2

Here is an update from my previous post.
We figured the total snow fall at around 33-34".  We had to average because it was blowing around so much.  No place measured less than 30" but we had some spots that were 4 foot.  The stuff was blowing around a lot.

Charlie built a fort.  The snow was so high that it was easy, all he had to do was dig into it.

  2. Alright, I have to know how you dig a fort like that and don't just have the snow crumble down! We live in Buffalo so we always get snow this high, but I have no idea how to do that and my kids would love it!

  3. This is too funny! I lived in Fairfax for 5 years and never had half of that amount of snow! It could be worse, we moved to WI a little over a year ago and last winter our total for snow was 85"!!!! The best part was when we woke up one morning to 6" and we still had school!!! Fairfax would shut down for 1". Oh well, enjoy!

  4. This is common for us up here in the snow belt, but WOW, that's a lot for you Southerners. LOL! Have fun!

  5. Ya, people around here don't know what to do with the snow. Everything shuts down . . . not to mention people don't know how to drive in it!! Though I will say our neighborhood (and city) are pretty great about snow removal . . . apparently DC and the surrounding areas are horrible!

Christa, I asked dh and he said he just used the snow shovel to tunnel it out and then used a regular shovel and ran it around the inside to kind of pack the snow firm. I think it has to do with your snow though. Really dry snow will crumble. I tried to build a snowman during a snowfall earlier this year and all I could build was a snow mound, LOL!! You couldn't even make snowballs with it it was so dry. This snow wasn't as wet and heavy as some snows I have seen, but wasn't nearly as dry the one we had before, so things stuck together much better.

  6. I will have to try it when we get some wet snow , thanks so much for explaining! (BTW, I have never figured out how to "roll snow" into a snowman. I've seen it done, so I know it's possible, but I've never been able to do it. Maybe I should stop telling people I'm from buffalo, because I seem to be very inept at this snow stuff!)
